All you need to keep your granite looking great is a little water and a couple of clean cloths
(paper towels will do nicely). Wet one paper towel with water and, working in small sections, wash
an area of countertop. Then, dry this section with the other paper towel. All water contains some
amount of minerals. By working in small sections and buffing with the dry paper towel, you will avoid
leaving mineral streaks in the granite.
Can I use window cleaner on my granite?
We recommend you clean with just water. However, you may, on occasion, use window cleaner that does
not contain harsh chemicals, such as acids or ammonia.
Do I need to use disinfectant wipes to eliminate bacteria from my granite countertop?
No. Granite does not harbor bacteria. Just wash the counters as recommended above and you will be safe.
Can I cut on granite?
Yes, but it's not good for your knives. We recommend using a cutting board for this reason.
Can granite scratch?
Only a diamond is harder than granite. However, another piece of granite can scratch a granite
countertop. It is rare, but such instances can occur, for example, when a small stone gets stuck
to the bottom of a box of groceries that is then set on the counter.
Can I put hot pans on my granite?
Yes. Hot pans will not affect granite. We do not recommend putting red-hot pans on cold granite.
Do I need to reseal my granite? How often?
Your countertops were sealed in our shop prior to installation, but depending on the type of granite
you chose, an occasional application may be needed. Darker colored granite is harder than lighter
colors, and as a result, less permeable. Therefore, dark countertops may never need resealing. Light
colored countertops may require an annual application depending on how quickly absorbed moisture
evaporates out.
