Be part of the solution…be eco-friendly with Eco-stone!
As more and more land is developed, structures such as commercial buildings or residential homes and asphalt pavements create barriers that deflect rainfall from its natural course of recharging the groundwater. The growth of these types of impermeable surfaces is increasing at an alarming rate and has become a cause for concern among environmentalists.
Water quality also is being affected. As rainwater flows over asphalt pavement, it picks up petroleum,
hydrocarbons and other pollutants and carries them into streams, rivers, lakes and harbors. Land use
planners are searching for a balance between protecting water quality and environmental resources,
while accommodating economic growth. Many agree that letting rainwater seep naturally into the
ground is a big part of the solution.
Now there is a pavement that is not only attractive, strong, and durable, but also 100% permeable…Eco-Stone!
Eco-Stone Does...
- Reduces or eliminates rainwater runoff peak flows and volumes
- Captures "first flush" of rainstorms
- Reduces pollutant loads and total suspended solids (TSS)
- Offers the ability to restore infiltration capability
- Offers structural strength for driveways, parking lots, and low speed roadways, and it's snowplow safe!
- Qualifies for up to 5 credits under the LEED Green Building Certification System
When installed, the Eco-Stone units form a pavement with funnel-shaped openings, which are filled with coarse aggregate that permits water to drain freely through the surface and infiltrate naturally into the ground. And unlike other types of permeable pavements, such as open-graded cast-in-place asphalt or concrete, an Eco-Stone pavement's permeability can be restored should porosity be reduced over time.
Eco-Stone pavers securely interlock, are easy to walk on, are strong enough to support cars or trucks, and snow removal does not present a problem.
